Yesterday afternoon, on spotting that Dr. Brown’s Hand Sanitiser was now being offered on the company website, we contacted BCB for more details.

As many readers will be aware, in addition to supplying the Defence & Security sectors with specialist products, BCB also produces the revolutionary FireDragon cooking fuel currently used by UK Forces and ordered by at least one other NATO nation. The company is, and long has been, heavily involved in the Medical Supplies field. Indeed the initials BCB originate from Doctor Brown’s Cough Bottle, a medicinal linctus invented in 1854 which was shipped out to British troops during the Crimean War, and according to the company, ‘Dr Brown’ has now been “called back to do his duty for the community / country during this COVID-19 crisis.

Last night a company spokesperson told JOINT-FORCES.com: “In response to the Coronavirus outbreak, we decided to convert our machinery at our FireDragon fuel factory in West Wales to produce much-needed hand sanitisers. We are now working round the clock to keep up with the demand.”

This morning BCB International’s Managing Director, Andrew Howell, said: “Several weeks ago, when I saw the Coronavirus was sweeping through the globe, I decided to act.

“For the last five years we have been producing a solid fuel tablet made from bio-ethanol used by British Troops to warm their rations and heat their drinks. The fuel has anti-bacterial properties, so we decided to develop a hand sanitiser gel variant.

“Since launching production, the demand for our Dr. Brown’s hand sanitisers has rocketed. The UK’s Centres for Disease Control and Prevention recommends using a hand sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol. Our Dr. Brown’s hand sanitiser packs 80% of alcohol and an independent virucidal test conducted to the BS EN 14476:2013+A2:2019 standard shows it is effective against Coronavirus and influenza.”

At the moment the bulk of sanitiser production is earmarked for the Medical and Care professions and as a result there is a two to three week lead time on orders, but once official procurement requests have been fulfilled Dr Brown’s Sanitiser should become available for individual purchase in 50ml, 250ml, 400ml and 500ml bottles.
