The Russian Defence Minister, General Sergei Shoigu, and Turkish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, met on Saturday 29th to discuss the situation in Syria.
Press Release: During the meeting, Russian Defence Minister and Turkish Minister for Foreign Affairs discuss[ed] the withdrawal of the US troops from Syria, the situation in Idlib and other topical issues on Syria.
“We have a great opportunity to once again discuss situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone and demilitarised zone. Moreover, we are going to talk about implementation of agreements reached in Istanbul, about what we did after that, and as well as about everything concerning areas east of the Euphrates”, he said at the beginning of the meeting.
It is also planned to discuss what else should be done in this situation, when the US announced its troops withdrawn from Syria, Sergei Shoigu stated.

Footnote: On 19th December US President Donald Trump unexpectedly announced the intention to speedily withdraw US Forces from Syria, but this morning reports are surfacing that he is now reconsidering this decision.
