As the name suggests, the Alpine model from Keela are full-on waterproof over-trousers and, as you can see from the photos, I got to try these out very much for real on the first outing; says Mike Gormley.
The Alpines are basically the same as the Keela Salopettes but without the ‘bib’ part. Both legs are fully zipped, top to bottom, so can be donned and removed without taking one’s boots off. They make use of Keela’s own and very effective System Dual Protection to keep the wet out and give a high level of breathability.
Reinforced knees and seat, and otherwise highly durable material, are complimented by additional protection on the inside of the ankles to guard against boot scuff and crampon cuts. These are made for real life use.
There are snow ‘skirts’ at the bottom of each leg, so with decent boots you are very unlikely to get wet or snow ingress. There are fitted attachments for braces if you like wearing them, as well as belt loops.
There have been many occasions in the past I really could have done with a pair of these. Keela have a lightweight waterproof trouser which I will review in the future.
