US Army Announces OMFV Phase III and IV Contracts

The US Army has announced the award of OMFV Phase III and IV Contracts to American Rheinmetall Vehicles and General Dynamics Land Systems.

US DoD Contract Notice, Arlington VA, June 2023: American Rheinmetall Vehicles LLC, Sterling Heights, Michigan, was awarded an $812,575,723 firm-fixed-price contract for Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle Phase III and IV detailed design and prototype build and testing. Bids were solicited via the internet with five received.

Work will be performed in Sterling Heights, Michigan, with an estimated completion date of Dec. 25, 2027. Fiscal 2023 research, development, test and evaluation, Army funds in the amount of $107,912,944 were obligated at the time of the award. US Army Contracting Command, Detroit Arsenal, Michigan, is the contracting activity. (Awarded June 26, 2023)

Fiscal 2023 research, development, test and evaluation, Army funds in the amount of $94,038,404 were obligated at the time of the award. Background: Of the five OMFV contenders announced in July 2021, only Rheinmetall and GDLS progressed to the next Phases. Bids from teams led by BAE Systems, Oshkosh Defence, and Point Blank Enterprises were unsuccessful. The Rheinmetall offering is based on the LYNX KF41, whereasthe GDLS offering is based on the GRIFFIN III derivative of the ASCOD / AJAX and is from the same family as the recently ordered M10 Booker / GRIFFIN II.
