The German Federal Office for Information Technology and Use of the Federal Armed Forces (BAAINBw) has procured relief supplies in the hundreds of millions.
Press Release, 17 March 2020: [Auto-translation] In the past week, the Federal Ministry of Health asked the Bundeswehr for support in the procurement of protective masks, gloves, disinfectants and other medical material.
The Federal Office of Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Federal Armed Forces has taken on this important task and is working with all efforts to obtain the urgently needed material as quickly as possible. The BAAINBw is actively supported by the procurement offices of the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
Despite the tense market situation for protective equipment already reported in the media, the BAAINBw was able to arrange for the delivery of over 300,000 goggles and protective masks within a short time. “To date alone, we have awarded 33 contracts with a volume of around 224 million Euros. The majority of the material is to be delivered by the end of March” said Gabriele Korb, President of BAAINBw.
Eleven of these contracts with a volume of around 113 million Euros were contributed by the General Customs Directorate, the procurement office of the Federal Ministry of Finance. The federal procurement offices continue to work with priority on that urgently needed identified by the Federal Ministry of Health Material for maintaining the health system and to provide protection for the population.
