Military Odyssey is the place to be if you have an interest in Living History, restored military vehicles, combat uniforms, weaponry or rations, writes Bob Morrison.
The pesky pandemic once again sadly forced the cancellation of The War and Peace Revival at Beltring in July, but the deliberate timing of Military Odyssey to coincide with the English (and Welsh and Northern Irish) Summer Bank Holiday at the end of August means this multi-period Living History Show can go ahead from Saturday (28th) through to Monday (30th).
Ever since the first event back at the start of the millennium, I have done my level best (military exercise assignment commitments permitting) to visit Military Odyssey, held at the Kent Country Showground on the old WW2 air defence site at Detling on the North Downs above Maidstone, for a couple of interesting days out which also allows me to catch up with old friends in the militaria trade. This weekend it looks like the weather will be pretty much ideal, so I can see no good reason why I should break with this tradition (especially as the East-West Trading team have already said there will be a Kentish beer waiting with my name on it!).
If you have not already booked your advance ticket ~ serving UK military personnel get free admission on Bank Holiday Monday on production of their MOD 90 ID ~ or for more info on the show, just click on the banner above this paragraph or go to military-odyssey.com. Hopefully we’ll see you there.
