Press Release, São Paulo / Munich, 18 January 2021: Rohde und Schwarz was selected by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) to equip its modernised Embraer E-99M aerial early warning and surveillance aircraft with modern and secure communications. FAB is modernising five aircraft, each E-99M equipped with highly secure software defined radios and waveforms of the SOVERON family, widely used in the country. The modernisation is part of an FAB project together with Embraer and international suppliers, such as Rohde und Schwarz.
The E-99M aircraft is vital for detecting, tracking, identifying and air traffic control. It complements ground radar signals, improves situational awareness, and transmits information via secure data links with Rohde und Schwarz waveforms. This allows FAB to participate in aerial surveillance missions to combat irregular traffic. The aircraft is interoperable thanks to secure communications with other aircraft and ground stations, equipped with Rohde und Schwarz products.
“We have a long history as a partner for secure communications with FAB, that started more than 20 years ago, having committed ourselves to deliver customised solutions that meet all needs of Brazil,” Alipio A. Teixeira, Managing Director CEO, Rohde und Schwarz do Brasil Ltda., explains. “Technology, local content, training and support are key and we have a proven track record to be a reliable partner with our strong local presence.”
FAB received the first modernised E-99M aircraft in a ceremony at Embraer Defense & Security facilities together with key suppliers. Rohde und Schwarz was honoured to participate.
