HENSOLDT To Use BIRD Aerosystems’ RCD and MSIS

BIRD Aerosystems and HENSOLDT to Cooperate ~ BIRD will develop the Control Interface of HENSOLDT’s PrecISR MMR Family using their RCD and MSIS.

Press Release, 23 January 2019: HENSOLDT will now use BIRD Aerosystems’ RCD (Radar Control and Display) and MSIS (Mission Management System) to control their PrecISR advanced multi-mode radar family.

HENSOLDT, a global pioneer of technology and innovation in the area of defence and security electronics, and BIRD Aerosystems, the leading developer of Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS) and Airborne Surveillance, Information and Observation (ASIO) solutions, have signed a cooperation agreement which includes the integration of HENSOLDT’s new PrecISR advanced multi-mode radar family with BIRD Aerosystems’ operationally proven Radar Control and Display (RCD) system and BIRD’s Mission Management System (MSIS).

As a part of this joint programme, BIRD Aerosystems will adapt their RCD to control and manage HENSOLDT’s advanced PrecISR1000 radar. Furthermore, the data from the radar will be collected and processed by BIRD’s MSIS, which will automatically classify, prioritise and display the information gathered from the radar along with additional information from the other onboard sensors using state of the art algorithms with an easy to use and intuitive human-machine interface.

The PrecISR, HENSOLDT’s new family of airborne multi-mission surveillance radars, comprises of the newest generation gallium nitride AESA antenna technology with two-dimensional e-scan capability, combined with large bandwidth multi-channel radar core electronics and integrated radar signal processing. PrecISR has been designed for all types of airborne surveillance missions in 24/7 operation and in all weather conditions, to ensure safety and security and to detect conventional and asymmetric threats on the ground, at sea and in the air. Detecting, tracking and classifying more than a thousand objects, the PrecISR increases the surveillance capabilities and mission efficiency for any special mission aircraft.

BIRD’s RCD (radar control device) is integrated into BIRD’s advanced Mission Management System (MSIS) which manages the complete mission and enables ASIO Airborne, Naval and Ground units to share real-time information. BIRD’s MSIS reduces mission crew workload by display and operation of important aspects of the mission at any given time, enabling the crew to efficiently perform detection and classification of only the relevant targets.

Frank Doengi, Head of HENSOLDT Airborne, Space & ISR Radars: “Our PrecISRTM translates latest achievements in active array and digital receiver technology into a scalable high-performance sensor. Its superior precision and target accuracy make it the sensor of choice for surveillance of large sea and coastal areas against piracy, trafficking or illicit intrusion”.

Ronen Factor, Co-Chief Executive Officer and Founder: “We are confident and proud that HENSOLDT has selected BIRD for this programme. BIRD Aerosystems and HENSOLDT share a close relationship which already resulted in other successful joint programmes over the past years, and I am confident that this cooperation, as did the others, will bear fruit. BIRD’s combat proven RCD and MSIS Mission Management System were built upon vast operational know-how developed by the company over the years and we are confident that it will enhance the operational experience of the Hensoldt PrecISR while enabling us to offer this advanced radar as part of our ASIO offering to our customers”.
