On Sunday 9th January the Russian Federation MoD issued several releases on the continuing CSTO deployment to the Kazakhstan Republic.

Press Release, Moscow, 05:00, 09 January 2022: Relocation of Airborne units of Ivanovo formation and 45th Separate Special-Purpose [Spetsnaz] Brigade of the Airborne Troops from the Russian peacekeeping contingent of the CSTO peacekeeping forces to the Republic of Kazakhstan continues.

Airborne units with equipment and weapons fly by military transport aircraft from the airfields in the Moscow and Ulyanovsk regions to the Zhetygen and Almaty airfields. Units from the Russian peacekeeping contingent, which had previously arrived on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, began to fulfil the assigned tasks to protect vital facilities, airfields, and key social infrastructure facilities. Air group of more than 70 Il-76 and 5 An-124 aircraft created by the Russian Ministry of Defence transfers units of the Russian contingent of the CSTO peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan around the clock.

In accordance with the decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council, adopted on January 6, 2022, the Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization were sent to the Republic of Kazakhstan for a limited time to stabilise and normalise the situation. They included units of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic.

The main tasks of the Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the CSTO will be the protection of important state and military facilities, assistance to the forces of law and order of the Republic of Kazakhstan in stabilising the situation and returning it to the legal field. From the Russian Federation, subdivisions and military units of the Airborne Troops entered the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces.

Press Release, Moscow, 06:00, 09 January 2022: Relocation of the main forces of the Russian contingent of the CSTO peacekeeping forces to Almaty and Zhetygen airfields of the Republic of Kazakhstan continues by military transport aircraft from airfields in the Moscow, Ivanovo, and Ulyanovsk regions.

Airborne Troops units from the Russian contingent of the CSTO peacekeeping forces, which have performed earlier marches, are at the Chkalovsky, Ivanovo-Severny and Ulyanovsk-Vostochny airfields. Currently, Airborne Troops units are loading equipment and weapons onto military transport aircraft.

Press Release, Moscow, 07:00, 09 January 2022: Units of the Airborne Troops from the Russian peacekeeping contingent of the CSTO peacekeeping forces, deployed to the Republic of Kazakhstan, are marching to areas of conducting missions to protect vital facilities and social infrastructure.

Airborne units carried out relocation by military transport aviation from airfields in Russia, after unloading the column made a march to the deployment sites, where, after clarifying the situation, the military personnel of the Russian contingent of the CSTO peacekeeping forces began their mission.

Press Release, Moscow, 09:15, 09 January 2022: The deployment to the Republic of Kazakhstan of units of the Ivanovo Airborne Formation, which are part of the Russian contingent of the CSTO peacekeeping forces, continues. Paratroopers with equipment and weapons are flying by military transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces from the Severny airfield (Ivanovo).

Currently, units from the Russian peacekeeping contingent are already performing tasks in Kazakhstan to protect vital facilities and social infrastructure. Units arriving in the republic make marches to the areas where missions are performed.

Press Release, Moscow, 11:15, 09 January 2022: The military transport aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces continues the deployment of the Russian contingent of the CSTO peacekeeping forces to the airfields of Almaty and Zhetygen of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Units of the Airborne Troops from the Russian peacekeeping contingent of the CSTO peacekeeping forces, deployed to the Republic of Kazakhstan, marched to areas of conducting mission to protect vital facilities and social infrastructure.

Also, at the Almaty airfield, units of the Russian contingent of the CSTO peacekeeping forces conduct trainings, during which they practice actions to prevent emergency situations.

Press Release, Moscow, 15:15, 09 January 2022: Joint briefing by the Commander of the collective peacekeeping forces of the CSTO in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Colonel-General Andrey Serdyukov and Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Lieutenant-General Sultan Gamaletdinov

Colonel-General Andrey Serdyukov, Commander of the collective peacekeeping forces of the CSTO in the Republic of Kazakhstan: “In accordance with the decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council, the collective peacekeeping forces have completed deployment on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

“Currently, the units of the peacekeeping forces are carrying out tasks to protect important military, state and socially significant facilities in the city of Almaty and adjacent areas.

“I express my gratitude to the Kazakh side for the prompt solution of the issues of deployment and provision of military contingents with everything necessary.

“Russian citizens who are on vacation in Almaty or with relatives who have expressed a desire to travel to the territory of the Russian Federation have been sent by military transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces.

“The fulfilment of tasks by the units of the Collective Peacekeeping Forces will continue until the situation in the country is fully stabilised.”

Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan Lieutenant General Sultan Gamaletdinov: “The situation on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan is stabilising and is under the control of the authorities.

“I want to thank the command and personnel of the collective peacekeeping forces of the CSTO for the fraternal assistance provided to the Kazakh people.

“Taking the most important facilities under the protection of peacekeepers allowed us to release a significant part of the forces and means of law enforcement agencies and the army, which are deployed to fight terrorists.

“Currently, a counter-terrorism operation is continuing on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It will last until the complete destruction of terrorists and the restoration of constitutional order in the Republic of Kazakhstan.”
