US and Spanish Army SHORAD units have participated in a combined arms live-fire and radio rodeo during SABER STRIKE / STDE24 in Poland.

This week Air Defenders from the US Army’s Charlie Battery, 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 5-4 ADAR, participated in a combined arms live-fire and radio rodeo alongside Spanish Army colleagues as part of Exercise SABER STRIKE on Bemowo Piskie Training Area in Poland. SABER STRIKE is one of the three sub-exercises that comprise the US Army’s DEFENDER 24 exercise which is linked into NATO’s STEADFAST DEFENDER (STDE24) exercise series.
The primary 5-4 ADAR anti-aircraft and anti-UAV system is the M-SHORAD (Maneuver Short Range Air Defence) variant of the Stryker 8×8 armoured fighting vehicle. Normally these vehicles are configured with a four-round Stinger missile pod and a twin Hellfire missile launcher rack either side of the turret, which can also accommodate a 30mm XM914 cannon and 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, but neither missiles nor guns appear to be fitted in the accompanying photos. The Spanish vehicles are armoured URO VAMTACs.
