We Are Not On Holiday But…

Our little team is not on holiday but… summer is here in the Northern Hemisphere and much of the defence industry sector is taking a break.

~

As you have probably noticed, of late there has been a lot less defence sector news for us to report on. This is unsurprising as in Europe and North America the summer holiday season and the corresponding annual military leave period are now either underway or just a few days off. Foreign holidays in the sun are still not on the cards for many, but staycations are at an all-time high as many try to recharge their batteries following almost a year and a half of pandemic doom and gloom.

For us the cancellation or postponement of early summer defence expos plus the current overseas travel difficulties caused by ongoing COVID-19 restrictions are currently preventing us gathering as much fresh content as we would like; to give just one example of the latter, for a second year we have had to cancel plans to cover a very interesting multinational summer exercise near the Georgian capital of Tbilisi. On the militaria side, losing the traditional War & Peace Revival living history show for a second consecutive summer – it should have commenced today – has also taken its toll on the fresh content side, though fortunately Military Odyssey is still scheduled for the August Bank Holiday weekend and we hope to be there to both meet old friends in the trade and ferret around for interesting military paraphernalia. That said, if the country hosting the next defence expo we are registered for unexpectedly comes off the UK Red List in time, a trip to photograph contemporary rather than historic military subjects will naturally take priority.

Although we are not on holiday, and indeed we don’t really do holidays in the conventional sense, we are currently battling with a mountain of necessary admin work ahead of commencement of what could become a busy autumn defence expo and exercise seasons… fingers crossed! So although original features and reviews may be a little bit thinner on the ground at the moment than we would like, please rest assured that we are still beavering away behind the scenes and we hope to keep uploading fresh content on a daily basis… though in the short term possibly maybe not quite as much as you have been used to of late.

Finally, you might have spotted that two new Sponsors ~ Arktis and Rite in the Rain ~ have recently stepped in to help keep our little website Free-To-View for all, without any need to register or to divulge personal information. As our averaged 2021 half year monthly viewing stats are 52% up on last year’s monthly average, their additional support is definitely most welcome. Please check out their adverts, and of course those of our other Sponsors, next time you are looking for new kit. Thanks.
