14 AWD Event 4 – STEEL ARROW in Brief

STEEL ARROW was fourth of five events at the 14th Annual Warrior Competition (14AWC) for Special Operations Forces at KASOTC in Jordan, reports Bob Morrison.

The fourth 14AWC event, STEEL ARROW, only involved the Snipers Pairs nominated by the 38 teams participating in the 2025 Annual Warrior Competition and as they competed at the same time as the other five members from each team took part in the LAST CHANCE event I decided to concentrate on the latter. As I had already photographed team snipers on the UKD firing range during TRAIL OF VICTORY (i.e. Event 2) it seemed logical to photograph as many competitors as possible at the CQB Shoot House event rather than taking similar photos to the day before.

In brief, STEEL ARROW required each two-man sniper and spotter pair to engage four steel targets with one round apiece at unknown distances between 400 and 800 metres on different parts of KASOTC‘s sniper ranges from a designated Shooting Position using a .308 calibre sniper rifle. Each pair had to infiltrate from the Start Point, using speed as security, to the Shooting Position, where the sniper locked and loaded his rifle with a six round magazine (including two spares) while the spotter identified targets for him to engage from nearest to furthest. Once the engagement was complete, or the shooter ran dry, he had to show clear and return any unused rounds then once cleared by Range Safety the pair had to move with haste to the designated Finish Point. Maximum raw run time for this event was seven minutes, with Disqualification the penalty for failing to meet the time limit, and time penalties were given for engaging targets outside of or before both members reached the Shooting Position.

Scores were added to each team’s running total from across the other Events resulting in the overall top fifteen teams being selected to participate in THE KING’S CHALLENGE finale the next day.
