Earlier this week at the UK Outdoor Trade Show in Liverpool we met up with the German bootmakers’ UK & Ireland Sales Manager, who had brought a pair of the new Combat GTX boots in my size to the expo, meaning I was one happy bunny as I made my way home to Devon last night.

Over the next week or so I plan to keep these boots on my feet while out and about with the intention of bringing you my first impressions. The weather forecast for this initial test period looks like it might be almost ideal, with the mercury hovering in the high teens and occasionally nudging above 20°C, though I would have preferred just a little bit warmer, plus there is a fair bit of persistent precipitation heading this way over the first few days. As these mid-weight boots with suede and textile uppers, deliberately designed to sit between the Black Eagle and Scout models, have the Gore-Tex Extended Comfort lining they should be just about right for warm and clammy ‘Wimbledon’ weather. Watch this section around Finals Day for my first impressions.
