Press Release, Wiesbaden, 13 November 2020: US Army Europe will deploy two M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems with approximately a dozen personnel to Romania for the live fire exercise RAPID FALCON Nov. 19. The personnel and equipment are from 1st Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment, 41st Field Artillery Brigade, based in Grafenwöhr, Germany.

Exercise RAPID FALCON is conducted in coordination with the Romanian Land Forces at Mihail Kogalniceanu Airbase and Capu Midia Training Area, and integrates the US Air Force, US Special Operation Command Europe and US Navy. The bilateral, joint training event is designed to demonstrate US European Command’s ability to deploy long-range precision fires assets in support of NATO. The ability to rapidly surge combat-ready forces into and across the theatre is critical in projecting forces at a moment’s notice to support the alliance.

“We are honoured to work alongside our allies in Romania as one team in support of NATO’s larger mission. RAPID FALCON is a great joint exercise that demonstrates our ability to rapidly deploy our Soldiers and long-range precision fires capabilities at a moment’s notice anywhere in the European theatre,” said Col. Daniel Miller, the 41st Field Artillery Brigade commander.

RAPID FALCON allows 41 FAB to exercise a joint mission known as HIMARS Rapid Infiltration, or HI-RAIN. HI-RAIN involves rapidly deploying the unit and equipment, quickly conducting a raid-type fire mission and then immediately returning to home station. This exercise is 41st FAB’s second live-fire training event outside of Germany and their first in Romania since their reactivation.

COVID-19 mitigation measures are integrated into every step of the exercise to ensure the protection of service members, allies and host nation communities.
