Press Release, White Sands Missile Range, 11 December 2024: Lockheed Martin’s Patriot Advanced Capability– 3 (PAC-3) missile successfully integrated with the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) radar and the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) to defeat a Tactical Ballistic Missile (TBM) and an Airborne threat.
During the two missions at White Sands Missile Range, PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) confirmed the ability to detect, acquire, track and engage flight test targets. This is the sixth test in a series to validate performance and integration with the LTAMDS Radar and IBCS – key components within the US Army’s modernised Integrated Air and Missile Defense architecture.
“The ongoing evolution of PAC-3’s capabilities reflects our commitment to providing soldiers the most advanced and effective tools to counter emerging threats,” said Brian Kubik, vice president of PAC-3 Programs. “In partnership with the US Army, we’re maximising PAC-3’s effectiveness within a robust and resilient integrated 360-degree ecosystem that maximises situational awareness and response capabilities to help soldiers defend what matters most.”
PAC-3 uses Hit-to-Kill technology to defend against threats through direct body-to-body contact that delivers exponentially more kinetic energy on the target than can be achieved with blast-fragmentation mechanisms. PAC-3 is effective against current and evolving threats including aircraft, tactical ballistic missiles, advanced threats including hypersonics, and cruise missiles.
