The Middle East and North Africa Region biennial defence expo has this time filled all four halls at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre (EIEC) on the southern side of the capital city. Since my arrival at the weekend I have managed, despite currently walking with the assistance of a folding cane, to stroll all the aisles in each of the Halls as well as getting around the outdoor static display area to research some of the latest defence equipment and trends. It has been an interesting and enjoyable trip, made even more pleasant by mostly clear skies with daytime December temperature highs of around or just above 25°.

Egypt manufactures quite a high proportion of its defence equipment itself, sometimes in partnership with US and/or European manufacturers, but it also procures some of its kit from Asia so there was a good spread of interesting but seldom seen elsewhere subjects for me to snap away at and pick up data on. No doubt a fair number of my photos will crop up in future articles once the current high tempo of assignments eases off, but before I head back to a wintry UK I need to make one more foray to EIEC on the fourth and final official show day to tie up a few loose ends.

Finally, on Wednesday I briefly slipped away to Giza to snap the Pyramids and the Sphinx, as previously I had only seen them from the air… it just had to be done! [© BM]
