UK FCDO British Nationals NEO from Sudan ~ Updated

Press Release, Whitehall, 25 April 2023: Personnel of 3 Commando Brigade and Joint Force Head Quarters deployed to Cyprus in support of the FCDO Non-combative Evacuation Operation to remove personnel from Sudan. The UK has undertaken a military operation to evacuate British nationals from Sudan, due to escalating violence. The armed forces conducted this complex operation under extremely challenging circumstances and their bravery and courage is commended. The operation involved more than 1,200 personnel from 16 Air Assault Brigade, the Royal Marines and the Royal Air Force.

The UK government assisted by the British Military has evacuated British Citizens from Sudan. RAF flights are continuing between Wadi Seidna airport in Sudan to Larnaca International Airport, following three evacuation flights that took place late overnight between Tuesday 25 April and Wednesday 26 April. The Ministry of Defence has been working to support the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in evacuating civilian UK nationals from the airport. Around 140 personnel from all three services of the UK Armed Forces have been deployed to the airport, where the UK is set to take over operations for aircraft using the airport today (26 April).
