Mike Gormley brings us an update on the Klean Kanteen Insulated Camp Mug, Insulated TK Canister and TK Wide Container.
Klean Kanteen have a very significant range of products these days and I have to say some of these are in more of less daily use in our house or on our trips. So here I am providing an update of three of the more recent additions to the range which I have been using over past weeks; appropriately at this time of cold and wet weather when a hot brew or warm food has been most welcome.
Klean Kanteen Black Mountain Insulated Camp Mug: This one caught my eye for various reasons. A good tough insulted mug is a necessary part of life ~ for home, for office or when out in the great outdoors. I found the picture on this one particularly appropriate, but this mug comes in a wide range of colours and designs.
This robust mug is made form 90% post-consumer (recycled to us) 18/8 stainless steel. Perhaps you too wonder what it was used for in its former life, but maybe best not to know. This mug is a handy general purpose size containing 355ml / 12 fl oz, has a secure and useable handle and has a good flat base so it is less likely to fall over on uneven ground. It has a push-on plastic well-sealed lid which keeps the warm in and prevents your valued brew splashing out when on the move, but it is not a fully mobile drink-through mug. The mountain sun rise graphic is laser etched into the mug so wont wash off after a few uses or session in the dish washer. I can see this mug being in frequent use for many years.
Klean Kanteen Insulated TK Wide Café Cap Mug: I guess we probably all have, or at least have a need for, a carry-with insulated mug to enable us to take a hot, or cold, wet/brew while on the move.
This one from Klean Kanteen is a really good size at 473ml so will last a good while and will keep contents hot for the duration. Being of a parallel and wide mouth design, it maximises capacity in comparison to space used and is easy to clean. The ‘Café Cap’ allows you to drink-through with just a simple twist of the top so can be open or closed or easily swapped between. This mechanism is easy to take apart to give it a thorough clean when required. The threads on the inner body are Klean Kanteen’s ‘open thread’ design which is easy to clean and won’t trap residue. All of this mug can be put in the dishwasher. The cap also has a built-in and robust carry loop which is very handy. As for other products of this brand, it is made from 18/8 stainless steel. This one is in ‘non tactical’ Marigold, but there are more subdued colours if you prefer.
Klean Kanteen Insulated TK Canister: This comes in two sizes, on test here is the 473ml version and for those with a larger appetite there is a 946ml version. As for the mug it is also made from pre-owned 18/8 stainless steel.
Designed with due consideration to its use it has a shaped base so will sit flat and safe on uneven surfaces. The canister is of double walled construction so to keeps contents hot or cold, as required, for significant periods of time. The lid is also insulated and requires just a quarter turn to secure or unlock. This lid has a removable, washable, plastic seal so is in effect is double-sealed to prevent leakage and to maintain the heat. It is also a bit unusual as the secondary seal fits onto a rotating element so the whole lid assembly fits neatly and easily. The lid also has a built in substantial and folding carry loop. Again as for most items in the brand it is an item of kit you will have for years.
The Klean Kanteen range, among other product ranges like Leatherman and Petromax, is distributed in the UK by our friends at Whitby and Co. up in Kendal ~ click on the Klean Kanteen links above to go to the specific item or on their rotating advert on all editorial pages to go to their main website.
