Press Release, Tallinn, 02 January 2025: [auto-translated] The Special Operations Command organised a cooperation exercise in Ida-Viru County, the aim of which was to practise crisis operations in Estonia with K-Komando, the Estonian Security Police, and US Special Forces and play through realistic scenarios.

“The situations to which force structures respond during a crisis are rapidly changing and inherently challenging. The role of Special Forces in resolving these situations is to have a common understanding and respond as a unified force,” said Colonel Rivo Meimer, Commander of the Special Operations Command. “The aim of such cooperation exercises is to practise discretion in solving problems, flexibility and rapid adaptability in a changing environment.”

The cooperation exercise took place in various locations in Ida-Viru County – both in cities and in sparsely populated areas, and during the exercise, for example, they practised how to find and neutralise members of armed groups.

Special Operations are of strategic importance in Estonia’s independent defence capability. Special Operations are part of the activities of the Defence Forces, which are carried out by a unit formed, equipped and trained for this purpose, using tactics and methods different from other units.

The Special Operations Command is a unit directly subordinate to the Commander of the Defence Forces, which organises unconventional warfare, conducts Special Operations, and provides sector-specific training in both the Defence Forces and the Defence League.
