At this time of year, in the UK at least, a cosy and easy wearing fleece is what you need. The Daybreaker from Helly Hansen is exactly that and it has a very pleasant comfortable ‘feel’ as well.
As the days and evenings have become less warm I find myself reaching for this more often. Also, when we recently headed up to the Lake District it proved ideal for the autumnal weather while knocking around the house, as an outer layer it was perfect as days got cooler and when it rained – which it did often – it was great as a mid-layer under my jacket.
This fleece is a ‘just right’ sort of fit, with sleeves you can push up if needs be to adjust the temperature. It has a really good, zipped chest pocket ideal for the ever-present phone and camera. It comes with two tagged zipped side hand-warmer pockets and also has two really handy bonus ‘poacher’ style pockets on the inside, which are well sized and easily able to take an OS map. These also have a mesh inner so can be used as vents if required. Additional features are the reinforced shoulder tops with the same colour-matched material on the back of the collar and chest pocket. My version is in Jungle Green and there are other colours in the range, in five sizes from S to XXL.

A point to note here is that this is the Daybreaker Block Fleece which offers, as the name suggests, a very good level of wind-blocking resistance. There is also a Daybreaker Fleece version that isn’t Block.
A really nice fleece this and it is very light so ideal for travel ~ look out for this being worn in photos from my forthcoming [now current, Ed.] journey to the Far East and then Down Under.
