Press Release, South San Francisco CA, 01 October 2025: Aechelon Technology, Inc. – the leading provider of advanced geospatial and visual simulations solutions – has been chosen to deliver the baseline Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Common Database (CDB) for the US Air Force’s Simulator Common Architecture Requirements and Standards (SCARS) programme.

The SCARS initiative establishes a unified, open-architecture simulation environment across the United States Air Force, enabling enhanced interoperability, faster integration and cost efficiency in training and operational readiness. Aechelon’s database baseline will serve as the authoritative geospatial foundation, ensuring consistency across a wide range of training systems.

“We are honoured to be entrusted with delivering the baseline SCARS OGC-CDB database,” said Bert Sawyer – Vice President of Strategic Sales for Aechelon Technology. “Our long-standing commitment to database enhancements through use of ML/AI, open standards, visual realism and mission fidelity will help ensure that SCARS achieves its goal of unifying the simulation environment for joint training.”

Aechelon’s selection for SCARS aligns with the company’s broader technology roadmap, highlighted by its recently announced Project Orbion initiative. Project Orbion is the industry’s first AI-enabled Digital Twin of the Earth, integrating real-time satellite imagery, radar intelligence, photogrammetry and advanced visualization technologies into a continuously refreshed, physics-accurate 3D environment.

Together, SCARS and Project Orbion illustrate Aechelon’s mission to provide the next generation of geospatial services and database solutions, ensuring US and allied forces benefit from the highest fidelity, most correlated synthetic environments available.

Built on Aechelon’s Skybeam platform, Project Orbion demonstrates the future of Aechelon’s database and service ecosystem—delivering global, always-current, and sensor-fused geospatial environments. This initiative not only supports defence customers with mission rehearsal and situational awareness, but also extends to disaster response, emergency management, and autonomous AI system training.
