Press Release, London, 12 November 2025: Elbit Systems UK (ESUK), a Bristol based defence technology company, has delivered the first Ground Based Surveillance Radar (GBSR) systems to the Royal Artillery following successful live fire trials earlier this year. The delivery of these 55 units, and associated support solutions, means that ESUK has achieved the first tranche of equipment deliveries.

GBSR is a portable radar system that operates in two primary roles: Surveillance and Fall of Shot (FoS) correction. When used for Surveillance, the system can track and classify personnel, vehicles, helicopters and drones – providing troops with an accurate picture of allied movement and an early warning on incoming threats. For FoS correction, GBSR provides mortar and artillery teams with rapid fires adjustments by detecting and locating rounds with a high level of accuracy – increasing the effectiveness and lethality of fires teams.

The system, which is manufactured exclusively in the UK and Europe, was specifically developed to meet the requirements of the British Armed Forces and enables the demand for market leading sense and decide technology. This innovative approach, combined with ESUK’s open architecture, led to the development of a high-tech solution that will enhance survivability of front-line troops and provide operational advantage now and into the future.

Following the initial deliveries, ESUK will be working with the British Army to deliver the remaining systems later this year. GBSR is part of ESUK’s ;detect and protect’ portfolio, which is helping British and allied Armed Forces to detect and counter incoming threats.

Martin Fausset, CEO of Elbit Systems UK said: “GBSR will enhance the situational awareness of personnel on the ground, help keep them safer, by better-detecting enemy threats, and give them the advantage in locating targets. The programme is a great example of our Bristol team working with the customer to develop a bespoke capability that meets the end users’ requirements now and into the future. We look forward to delivering the rest of the systems to soldiers across the British Army.”
