This latest evolution of the Snugpak Insulated Jacket range, which should be with top retailers in time for collection before the major COLD RESPONSE 2022 NATO winter exercise commences in Norway in March, is being produced initially in both Genuine MultiCam and Olive Green, reports Bob Morrison.

Temperature rating for this windproof, breathable and water repellent jacket, which weighs just 1120g (40oz) in Medium size and packs down to 36x20cm diameter or roughly 14×8”, is -15°C Comfort or -20°C Low. The outer fabric is Paratex Micro and the inner is Paratex Light, both 100% nylon, and Snugpak’s exclusive Softie 100% polyester insulation is used to provide what we are sure will prove to be superb warmth. The technical fit jacket design, with elasticated drawcord-adjustable hem and fabric weather baffle behind the full-length concealed YKK front zip, is scooped / scalloped at the rear to retain warmth when bending forward. There is also a fully detachable zip-off insulated hood, which is peaked and has an adjustable elasticated drawcord with cord locks, and the sleeve cuffs can be drawn in with hook and loop fasteners. There are both internal and external chest pockets plus an upper left arm pocket, and the two main hand warmer pockets have comfortable brushed polyester lining.

The Tomahawk will be available in five sizes, from XXL down to S, and should retail for around £200 in Olive; the MultiCam version will necessarily be slightly more expensive to cover the camouflage pattern copyright holder’s licence fees on the fabric. Note that this jacket, which is manufactured abroad, is not quite yet available but should be with the specialist retailers in February.
