Helly Hansen have combined warmth and dexterity for your hands with these ULLR D 3 Fingers Gloves, writes Mike Gormley.

There’s now a chill in the air in the Northern Hemisphere which makes it time to sort out a good way to keep your hands warm. Helly Hansen, as ever, have an answer to this.

These are just a bit different and cross over between mittens and gloves. Perhaps we could call them hybrid handwear? I really like mitts as they enable your fingers to support each other, a kind of buddy system, and so can share their heat. Gloves, of course, allow much more dexterity and let the wearer ‘do things’ with their fingers; and generally we need lots of that. So, these help us to both keep hands warm and retain at least some dexterity therefore are a really good compromise.

As one would expect from Helly Hansen, these are good quality. They have leather palms and fingertips to withstand the rigours of hard use. The backs are much lighter but with HELLY TECH water resistance. There is a useful, but not intrusive, cuff to join handwear to your jacket and this is both elasticated and has a sturdy hook and loops strap to adjust the fit as well as helping to keep the warmth in and the bad weather out. On the inside there is a very nice, brushed fleece finish to help keep the hands warm and a welcome feel as you slide your cold hands in.
Each glove has a clip so you can join left and right when not in use to help prevent the really annoying issue of losing just one. Also to preserve your ownership there are removable, if you prefer, elasticated wrist straps. Really good these and make for HH Happy Hands.
