The Super Sparrow Ultra-Light stainless steel drink flask, available in three sizes from 350 to 750ml, is perfect for any day on the hill, writes Mike Gormley.

Super Sparrow make a wide range of 18/10 food grade stainless steel drink containers. This is a good sized one at 750ml and, importantly, is 25% lighter than many other similar units; it weighs in at 314 grammes which compares well with some plastic equivalents. There are three size options ~ 750ml, 500ml and 350ml with this one being the largest.

This flask is available with a screw cap complete with handy carry loop but can also accept the Super Sparrow Straw Lid. This allows for a flip-up drink-through system which has the option of an internal straw or to be used as a tip-and-drink in the more normal way; it also has a fixed carry loop. The standard screw cap has a foldable, flexible carry loop.

These flasks have a significant advantage over most plastic items as they are very long lasting and ultimately more easy to recycle, but I feel this won’t need to be done for many years. This drinks bottle is vacuum-insulated so to keep your wet / brew hot or cold, as required, over a long period of time. I have found the Super Sparrow can be a bit too efficient sometimes, so on shorter trips your hot drink possibly needs to be put in at a temperature more suited to when you want to drink it.

Ten different colours, plus a natural stainless steel version, are produced.
