Helly Hansen Veir Tur Trousers ~ or Pants

I have had some good opportunities lately to make good use of the Helly Hansen Veir Tur trousers ~ worn here with an appropriate HH Mountain Beanie and an Odin Fleece [© Jean Gormley]

These Men’s Veir Tur outdoor trousers from Helly Hansen are both good to wear and practical out on the trail or the moor, writes Mike Gormley.

When out walking we need to have practical easy wearing trousers. These Veir Tur trousers from Helly Hansen have the added benefit of stretch panels on the seat and the knees which make things more comfortable when the going gets a bit more extreme. They also have necessary additional protection on the inner ankle area to protect from boot scuff and perhaps crampon damage if you have cause to wear them. The bottom of the legs have adjusters so to be able to eliminate that annoying and ‘catching’ flap but also allow for the trousers to be easier to take on and off.

The material used for the Veir Tur trousers has a nice ‘feel’ and offers good durability and breathability though they are not waterproof but water-resistant. Helly Hansen have thoughtfully added in zipped vents to each leg so the wearer can adjust the internal temperature if/when things get warm. The YKK zips on these have decent sized, and very user-friendly, pull tabs; makes a nice change I have to say.

These HH trousers also have some usefully positioned and practical pockets. Normal open and slant style side pockets are provided on both sides but, importantly, in my opinion, on the front of both legs are good sized cargo pockets with press stud secured closures; one of these has an additional and very useful zipped ‘security’ pocket under the top flap which is essential for those car keys and other valuable items.

These are nice to wear and practical trousers, but I have to put in a word of warning on sizing. They are ‘Regular’ fit trousers and I chose the correct size for my waist but the legs are a somewhat close fit as I have quite large legs; not an uncommon problem for me and I am sure others might have the same, so perhaps a size up might be better. There are four different colours to choose from ~ these are in the perhaps appropriate for most of us ‘Trooper’ shade of khaki ~ and a Women’s cut version is also produced by HH.
