Russian Eastern District Marines In Belarus

Russian Eastern Military District Marines land at Obuz-Lesnovsky training ground as part of the UNION COURAGE 2022 joint exercise.

Press Release, Moscow, 19 February 2022: Marine units of the Eastern Military District, taking part in UNION COURAGE 2022 joint exercise, at Obuz-Lesnovsky training ground, practised the landing of tactical airborne troops in order to prevent the withdrawal of illegal armed groups (IAF).

Having received the task, the reconnaissance units of the Marine Corps carried out loading into Mi-8AMTSh helicopters at the Baranovichi airfield and flew to the area of the training ground, where they carried out landing from helicopters.

After disembarking from the helicopter, the forward group occupied the indicated lines, ensuring by their actions the landing method of the main forces of the tactical landing force to block and destroy the retreating illegal armed formations.

Footnote: For reference, Baranovichi airfield is a former Soviet Union airbase in Belarus, due east of Białystok in Poland and approximately 200km north of the Ukrainian border. Obuz-Lesnovsky training ground is around 25km east of Baranovichi.
