The Brew Company from Denmark give those in the field an opportunity to have a really good coffee wherever they are, writes Mike Gormley.

Many years ago when working with the Danish troops I realised how much they enjoy their coffee. Even in the field they do their coffee ‘properly’, often using ‘brew-in-the-bag’ rather than instant coffee powder if at all possible. So it was no real surprise to learn that Coffeebrewers come from Denmark.

According to The Brew Company: “The Coffeebrewer is an innovative and worldwide patented coffee product, designed as a crossover between French Press and Pour-Over coffee. It uses a filter system that ensures a delicious filter coffee infusion, with the rich body and character of a classic French Press brew.”

We all know the ubiquitous ‘boil in the bag meals’ and Coffeebrewers are the drinks equivalent. I was introduced to this concept at this year’s Outdoor Trade Show and, quite apart from the fact it was a very welcome brew during my time at the event, it tasted really great. I came away with a few samples to try and at last I had this opportunity when out on Dartmoor recently. I could have had a brew-up at home, but arguably this is not really the way these should be used. Of course, they can be, but for me Coffeebrewers offer a great and easy way to have a good brew of coffee when out and about.

Coffeebrewers are light, easy to pack and really simple to use. I see no reason at all why you could not take your favourite type of coffee to work in the office or even if you are just on a long journey as there is a good selection using beans from several South American and African countries. All you need is hot water and a mug.

One point really worth a mention is that I normally take my coffee with milk and perhaps sugar or maple syrup. When ‘in the field’ milk, especially, is not so easy unless you use powdered which kind of spoils the way this is all done. Jean takes her coffee black, so I did the same. I think it is a test of coffee quality if it is good to drink black and sugarless, so happy days. I really enjoyed this brew straight black.

The other feature of these slightly see through bags is they are marked off to gauge Strong, Medium and Less Strong; Jean and I got two decent mugs out of the first go. We also found you can go again with another fill of hot water and get a very acceptable second brew. So, this makes these really good value and may even run to three cupfuls with suitable adjustment of water and time.

I have some other Coffeebrewer flavours / variants to try and also their Teabrewer versions so I will let you know more when I get the chance to try these.
