We all need decent T-shirts and these HP Ocean QD and Verglas Shade shirts from Helly Hansen are definitely fit for purpose, writes Mike Gormley.

I have had, and been regularly using, these two T-shirts from HH for a while now and have found them just good to wear items when I am doing something active, but I also feel they are smart enough to go out in on a warm day or evening.

The Helly Hansen Verglas Shade is one of those universal T-shirts that comes out of the drawer whatever I am doing for the day. It’s just a comfy to wear item and is easy to wash and dry, so also great for travelling with. It offers UPF 30+ sun protection and is made from over 50% recycled materials. The one I have is Deep Fjord and there is also a higher visibility Patrol Oran (orange) version if you prefer.

The Helly Hansen HP Ocean Quick-Dry shirt is for those warmer days and being QD (quick-dry) is ideal for days out on the water. It is also mostly made from materials that would otherwise ended up in the oceans, 92% recycled polyester with 8% elastane, so is definitely doing its bit to help the marine environment. This shirt has a really pleasant ‘feel’ to it for those warmer days and I got to use it a lot when away in the Adriatic but also use it a lot now back in the UK. It offers the wearer a high level of UV protection, rated UPF 50+, so also helps when out on the water. Mine is White and also has some feature lines to break up the plain colour plus there are also Patrol Oran and Navy versions.

For sure these two will be packed for a forthcoming trip overseas where I will need universal kit to suit many varied occasions.
