Press Release, Tallinn, 23 January 2026: [auto-translated] Today the 122nd Infantry Battalion of the 2nd Infantry Brigade ends training in Võru, at the Taara campus of the Defence Forces. Nearly 120 Reservists, who have been appointed to the position of armoured vehicle gunner, section commander or platoon leader, participated in the Reservist training that began on Monday and thus can perform key tasks in the infantry battalion.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Dmitry Kondratenko, Commander of the 122nd Infantry Battalion, Reservist training is essential in maintaining the combat readiness of the unit. “Due to the specifics of the Reserve units, regular training is crucial. The active participation of the Reservists demonstrates their high motivation and understanding of the need for training,” said Lieutenant Colonel Kondratenko.

Like other manoeuvre battalions of the 2nd Infantry Brigade, the 122nd Infantry Battalion has replaced the trucks used as a means of transport for [ARMA 6×6] armoured vehicles. However, the transition to a new structure is time-consuming and requires continuous training and practice of cooperation within the unit. Regular and well-prepared training sessions are one of the most important components of the transition process.

The last major Reservist training took place for the members of the unit last summer, when the truck drivers underwent retraining into armoured vehicle drivers and the team leaders improved their knowledge in tactical training. This week, both these and other lessons already completed were confirmed. In practice, Reservists participating in training can apply the already acquired skills in May at the large-scale exercise KEVADTORM (SPRING STORM) 2026, where the entire battalion’s personnel are expected.

The 122nd Infantry Battalion is one of the three infantry battalions belonging to the Reserve structure of the EDF 2nd Infantry Brigade. The unit is mainly trained in the Kuperjanov Infantry Battalion in Võru.
