At the recent Azerbaijan Defence Expo (ADEX 2026) I was able to photograph M2024 Camouflage Pattern under natural light, writes Bob Morrison.

Last December I had the chance to photograph the still comparatively new Azerbaijani M2024 pattern in Cairo at EDEX 2025, but as the uniform sample was on a mannequin displayed under interior expo display lighting I was not 100% sure that I had the colours spot-on. At ADEX 2026 in Baku, however, an Azerbaijani Air Force officer who spoke perfect English kindly offered to let me photograph the back panel of his combat shirt and his insignia for Kit & Camo readers.

By pure chance the same part of the camouflage repeat (ringed in red) appears on both the sample uniform snapped indoors last year and the in-service uniform photographed on the 1st of this month and to my eyes there is very little colourway difference. In my original article back in January, drawing comparison with Turkish M2021 camouflage I suggested “Azerbaijan has changed the colourway while still retaining the overall camo effect”. Now, having been able to look at a number of AZ M2024 camo samples at ADEX and compare them (on my phone) to the two TK M2021 examples, I am unconvinced the more recent pattern is a straight copy of the earlier camo but the overall design construction and general effect are definitely very similar; the colourways and precise compositions of the two are very different however. Sometimes it is only when able to view large pattern repeats side by side that one can differentiate between ‘cloned’ and ‘influenced by’.

For those interested in rank insignia, the Azerbaijani Air Force officer is a Kapitan which corresponds to Captain (OF2) in most NATO air forces or Flight Lieutenant in the RAF. Air Force and Army wear the same camo pattern.
