The new LOWA Z-8N MK2 GTX PR 8-inch Police and Military Boot, an evolution of the original Z8 series, is now available for UK private purchase, writes Bob Morrison.

This slightly redesigned version of the LOWA Z8, a long-time firm favourite with NATO Special Operations and Special Forces personnel, incorporates a new penetration-resistant sole unit to comply with latest EN working boot regulations; hence the PR in the title. I first spotted this new patrol boot (in black) displayed at Milipol 2025 in Paris last November but I have not yet been able to try it out as initial stocks were destined for Government contracts meaning stocks across the full size range are only now available for individual sales. However I have years of experience of wearing the earlier LOWA Z8 model and I am confident that the latest version will be every bit as good… as well as keeping old ‘Elvin Zaifety’ content.

Of slip-lasted construction with an injected rubber sole, the mid-height LOWA Z-8N MK2 GTX PR boot has minimum 2.0mm thick Nubuck leather uppers and a PFC-free ePE membrane GORE-TEX Professional Performance Comfort breathable waterproof lining. The LOWA TACTICAL 2, ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) compliant, rubber outsole is said to offer improved slip resistance and has a new ladder grip zone for added traction. This smart new, closed hook lacing, boot model is currently available in either Black or Brown across ten sizes between UK7 and UK14.

As these boots are produced as standard in a size big enough to fit even Mike Gormley’s ridiculously large feet, if a pair are heading our way for review I’ll graciously step to one side and give the Big Man the chance to try them out. He likes LOWA boots as much as I do.
