Press Release, Seoul, 1 June 2024: South Korea’s leading aerospace and defence corporation, Hanwha Aerospace will participate in Eurosatory 2024, the world’s largest defence exhibition to be held in Paris, France, from 17th-21st June.
At the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre, the company will present a variety of advanced defence solutions, focusing on precision-guided weapons and artillery systems. A full-size K239 Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launcher System (MRLS) will be on display for the first time in Europe. This comes as several countries in the region show interest in acquiring advanced long-range precision-guided systems amid growing security challenges.
The Chunmoo MRLS is an advanced rocket artillery system capable of firing various types of rockets and missiles, offering tactical flexibility and adaptability to different operational requirements. The Chunmoo MRLS can fire two different calibre rockets simultaneously with real-time precision strike capability. It can fire several kinds of munitions, including 239mm and 280 mm rockets with a range of 80km and 160km, additionally, it can launch a 290mm ballistic missile with a maximum range of 290km. The Chunmoo MRLS is already in use by several international users. Poland has signed contracts to acquire 288 units of HOMAR-K, a Polish version of the K239 MRLS.
With growing interests in the K-MRLS, Hanwha Aerospace is considering the inauguration of ‘Chunmoo User Club’ in the near future. This initiative aims to respond to the growing user base of the long-range artillery system, particularly in Europe. The envisaged Chunmoo user community will be modelled after the K9 User Club, where representatives from user nations meet to share their experiences and best practices for operating and maintaining the artillery system.
“Our goal is to become the most trusted partner of NATO countries, providing customised defence solutions and services through strong partnerships with the governments and industries concerned,” said Mr. Jaeil Son, President and CEO of Hanwha Aerospace. “We are fully committed to localisation efforts related to job creation, technology transfer, and local manufacturing and maintenance of equipment, which will contribute to national security and the economic growth.”
At Eurosatory, Hanwha Aerospace will also showcase the growth potential of the K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer, the world’s most popular tracked howitzer, currently in service with nine nations, including five NATO countries: Poland, Finland, Norway, Estonia, and Türkiye. Other products on display will include the TAipers tactical guided missile, which can be integrated into both manned and unmanned vehicles; the 155mm artillery Modular Charge System; the Arion-SMET multi-purpose unmanned ground vehicle; and the Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle.
