Press Release, Tel Aviv, 10 April 2025: Asio Technologies, a leading developer of advanced tactical solutions, has provided several ORION systems to support the Israeli delegation assisting in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Thailand. The systems are expected to significantly enhance situational awareness, navigation, and coordination during critical search-and-rescue and humanitarian missions.

Known in the IDF as ‘OLAR’, the ORION system is a combat-proven tactical solution widely used by manoeuvring forces—from squad leaders to company commanders. Designed to replace traditional printed maps, the rugged Android-based device equips field units with real-time terrain analysis, mission planning, line-of-sight calculations, and precise navigation tools.

To support the rescue operations in Thailand, the ORION system will play a key role in unifying efforts on the ground. The system enables rapid synchronisation and real-time communication between multiple teams operating in challenging terrain. Using ORION, rescue teams can launch a UAV to capture updated imagery of the affected area, upload the new maps directly into the system, and distribute them across all ORION units in the field. The rescue plan can then be drafted as an additional graphic layer on top of the most current image map.

Once the plan is finalised, ORION automatically augments the data layers onto the live camera view, creating a single, synchronised and operational 3D model and Augmented Reality picture. This allows each user to see essential information—such as search zones, safe paths, or hazard areas—on their screen, enabling more focused, informed, and coordinated action.

“We heard that Israel was sending a delegation to assist in Thailand, and on Saturday, we received a call from an IDF officer who is part of the mission,” said David Harel, CEO of Asio Technologies. “He asked to take the ORION system with him, as he uses it regularly and knows how effective and helpful it is. Our team immediately rallied and prepared several ORION systems for the mission—equipped with the relevant maps and all the necessary data.”

Operationally deployed in ongoing military efforts, ORION requires minimal integration and features a simple, intuitive interface—making it especially effective in both combat and humanitarian environments. By delivering synchronised situational awareness and enhancing communication between teams, the system supports faster, safer, and more coordinated operations in disaster zones.

“We are honoured to support this important life-saving mission,” added Harel. “It’s deeply meaningful to see the ORION system extend beyond defence operations and help those on the front lines of humanitarian relief.”
