NADG Press Release, Whitehall, 19 October 2026: Seven companies and consortiums have been down-selected for the next phase of the competition to replace the British Army’s Land Rover and Pinzgauer vehicle fleets with a new generation of Light Mobility Vehicles (LMV).

The LMV competition run by the National Armaments Director Group will deliver an equipment, training and support solution to provide modern, capable and sustainable vehicles initially covering a variety of roles including General Purpose Vehicle, Tactical Mobility Vehicle, Battlefield Ambulance, Enhanced Protection Vehicle and Utility Vehicles.

Following the publication of the Tender Notice in July, a Procurement Specific Questionnaire (PSQ) sparked significant interest from industry. A total of 14 potential suppliers responded to the PSQ, with seven successfully meeting the requirements to progress to the next stage which incorporates the formal Invitation to Tender (ITT) and Evaluation Trials, and has now been launched. The down-selected potential suppliers, and the base vehicle platforms on which their supply proposals are based, are:

  • Babcock International Group (Toyota)
  • General Dynamics Land Systems UK (Ford)
  • Ineos Automotive (Ineos Automotive)
  • Iturri S.A. (Stellantis)
  • Jaguar Land Rover (Jaguar Land Rover)
  • NP Aerospace Limited (General Motors)
  • Rheinmetall Defence UK (Mercedes)

An initial tranche of around 3,000 vehicles will be procured, with the ability to increase the fleet to more than 9,500. Flexibility incorporated into the contract will enable the MOD to respond to evolving operational requirements and technology changes. The procurement will cover vehicle supply, training and support solutions for the fleet as well as options to extend the contract by up to eleven years beyond the initial nine-year term. Vehicle deliveries are anticipated to start from 2027.

Luke Pollard MP, Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry, said: “The competition to replace Land Rover and Pinzgauer will give our forces a superb modern vehicle. It also shows how the Government is speeding up procurement – retiring old equipment, speeding up procurement and giving our forces the latest kit.”

The PSQ evaluation was conducted through a rigorous, evidence-based process, incorporating multiple stages of assessment. The ITT phase will run alongside assessment trials on 21 vehicles, where each bidder will bring three variants to prove they are capable of delivering what Defence needs. Running the two phases in parallel reflects the MoD’s commitment to accelerate procurement in line with the Strategic Defence Review 2025.

Representatives of the seven bidders came together today (Oct 19) for a conference with the NAD Group’s LMV delivery team and Army programme team, ensuring everyone has a clear, consistent understanding of the requirements and the procurement process. Lt Gen Anna-Lee Reilly, NAD Group Director General Materiel, said: “The response from industry to the Light Mobility Vehicle competition has been hugely encouraging and we are very pleased with the quality and competitiveness of the field.

“The upcoming evaluation trials will be the real test, and we will work closely with the down-selected suppliers as the competition moves into its next, crucial phase.”
