At the 2026 edition of Defence Vehicle Dynamics (DVD) nine companies hoping to be selected for the UK LMV programme were in attendance, reports Bob Morrison.

It was previously widely reported that companies being down-selected by the UK Ministry of Defence to present vehicles for trials were likely to learn by early October if they had been successful and it seems these notifications have now been despatched. Most of the manufacturers / suppliers / consortia who displayed at DVD at Millbrook Proving Ground last month appear to be ‘on the list’ for the next stage of this long-running process, though I understand a couple of prototypes which were ‘outside the box’ didn’t make the shortlist, and if my sources are correct one vehicle convertor which did not participate at DVD 2026 may well have been called forward. Interesting!

Naturally I did my best at DVD to snap those vehicle makes in attendance which I thought were most likely to be called forward for trials, as well as taking record shots of two types which I felt were at least five years ahead of what most believe UK MoD is looking to procure inside a comparatively short time frame. However I was very much aware that some vehicles displayed at the expo were quite likely not precisely what the companies were intending to actually present for the trials.

Hopefully the accompanying photos, presented below in alphabetical order, should be quite close to the submissions for General Purpose Vehicle or Utility Vehicle categories; the MoD decision that a Battle Field Ambulance variant would have to be presented for assessment for the initial trials phase came a bit late in the day so only a couple were completed in time for DVD and for balance BFA variants are not shown here. A Tactical Mobility Vehicle (i.e. WMIK replacement) submission will also be assessed for the trials phase, but most bidders were able to present one of these for visitors to see at Millbrook.

Footnote: It might take a little while for successful potential suppliers to confirm that they have been shortlisted, and as I am out in the Caucuses at present chasing all my contacts up is tricky, but should any of the ‘Light Mobility Seven’ issue press releases I’ll attempt to upload at the earliest opportunity. PR Teams… over to you now.
