To cut a long story short, a little over a couple of weeks ago former REME mechanic Danny Mitchell, who started his career maintaining ‘paraffin budgies’* before serving as a Vehicle Mechanic with BAOR in Germany, learned that he was one of ten nominees for Inspiration of the Year at the 2023 British Ex-Forces in Business Awards in Park Lane. Pretty much on the spur of the moment, at the end of May self-employed Danny decided to put everything on hold for a month and tab the 218 miles from his home in Cornwall to the event in London in 30 days, raising money along the way for a number of charities including the RBL, SSAFA and The REME charity who helped him when he was homeless three years ago. To leaen more read The 218m Challenge page on Go Fund Me. If you spot Danny tabbing up the A303 with a Union Flag on his daysack, give him a bit of encouragement.
