Yesterday evening I took a couple of hours away from the screen and by pure chance met Ex-REME Inspiration of the Year Nominee Danny Mitchell, writes Bob Morrison.
To cut a long story short, a little over a couple of weeks ago former REME mechanic Danny Mitchell, who started his career maintaining ‘paraffin budgies’* before serving as a Vehicle Mechanic with BAOR in Germany, learned that he was one of ten nominees for Inspiration of the Year at the 2023 British Ex-Forces in Business Awards in Park Lane. Pretty much on the spur of the moment, at the end of May self-employed Danny decided to put everything on hold for a month and tab the 218 miles from his home in Cornwall to the event in London in 30 days, raising money along the way for a number of charities including the RBL, SSAFA and The REME charity who helped him when he was homeless three years ago.
