Jomipsa Survival Ration Pack ~ Brief Update

At the recent IDEX event in Abu Dhabi I had the opportunity to inspect the contents of the 1250kcal Survival Ration Pack produced by Jomipsa, reports Bob Morrison.

Way back at BIDEC 19 (the 2019 Bahrain International Defence Exhibition & Conference) in Manama I first encountered, and externally photographed, the Jomipsa Survival Ration Pack but as both tins were sealed in BDF (Bahrain Defence Force) outer cartons I did not have the chance to inspect the contents. At IDEX 2025 the Jomipsa team had a broken seal example of their current standard Survival Ration Pack so, in addition to photographing the front and back of the tin, I was also able to examine the contents.

These pocket-sized tins, which are primarily intended for downed aircrew and other military personnel who may unexpectedly find themselves in a survival situation, provide 1250 kcal of energy to give a minimum daily balanced nutritional and calorific intake. All items are individually sealed and can be consumed cold, though of course water is needed to reconstitute the three drink powders; four water purification tablets sufficient to sterilise four litres are included.

Each tin contains: 2x 18g Isotonic Drink Powder; 3x 35g Chocolate Bar; 2x 30g Fruit Jelly Bar; 2x 40g Energy Bar; 2x 30g Peanut Butter; 1x 40g Hyperprotein Drink Powder; and 3x 2.2g Chewing Gum. plus 4x Water Purification Tablets. All components are taken from Jomipsa’s standard military / humanitarian ration packs so, from past experience, I did not actually need to try them out to know most readers should find them to be perfectly palatable. From the 2027 expiry date, I suspect the pack probably has a three-year shelf life.
