Keela Glacier Socks

In the Lakes these proved to be very comfortable on some decent walks, here by Derwentwater - note the vents on the instep and elasticated tops [©MG]
Another recently launched product from Keela to help keep you on the right side of cold in the winter months are these aptly named Glacier Socks, writes Mike Gormley.

I was told by Tony, the Keela mountain rescue teams rep, that I really had to try these Glacier Socks. Who am I to argue with a man of such mountain experience?

Since then I have been using these in both work boots and out on Dartmoor and across the Lakeland hills. I can’t say I have tried them on a glacier, sadly, or in any really cold conditions but it does not take a rocket scientist to know these socks will go a long way to keeping your feet toasty when the temperature drops below zero.

Made mostly from Merino, always a good thing in my mind as this wool is both warm and smell-resistant for those long trips out, they also have a little acrylic in the mix for stretch. There is also Cordura added on the high wear areas of heel and toe to prolong the working life of the sock. These are ‘cover the calf’ socks with elasticated tops so ideal for high leg military type boots or ski boots. The sole area is fast-wicking to help keep feet dry and there are ventilation channels in the instep area to aid breathability. Standard colour is an MTP-compatible shade Tan499 and available sizes are UK6-9, UK9-12 and UK12+.

You only have to feel these Glacier Socks to know they are going to be warm and comfortable. Cheers Tony, you were right!
