The Passport Hat from Sunday Afternoons is an easy wearing and very practical fedora manufactured from recycled nylon, says Mike Gormley.

It’s been perfect timing to try out this latest hat from Sunday Afternoons. As soon as I received it the sun, more or less, came out so perhaps this is a good omen.
Recently I have found a good need to be wearing this hat a lot on my recent travels as well as when out and about around home. As the spec says the Passport Hat is ‘travel friendly’ and this, I am pleased to say, I have proven. It stows flat in a backpack or even across a ruck sack and comes out looking okay, with just a bit of an internal stretch to reform its shape. It also works well to shed the odd shower of rain ~ to help this it is DWR~coated ~ which I had the chance to verify during an Easter barbecue.

I did at first wonder if the lack of a chin strap might be an issue if the breeze picked up but, in reality, the very simple to use size adjuster ensures a good fit so it remains snug, or loose, which makes very secure when needed. We (Jean and I) also found it allows for the hat to be moved around the family as it is easy to adjust the size.

A couple of weeks back I took it with me on a trip to Prague, and put it to good use as a sun hat because the weather was great, so proving the pack-ability; keeping it secure when looking over the numerous bridges or on boat trips also did not cause concern. It also received a number of comments from fellow travellers such as “like your hat” and a couple of local stall holders in the Easter Market referred to me as Indiana Jones. Happy to take that!

The material is easy-care, being washable and quick to dry and offers good sun protection. The brim is quite wide all around, so great to shade the eyes as when moving around as well as keeping the sun off the back off your neck. The inner brim colour is darker to aid shading. It has metal air vents and a wicking headband to keep you comfortable when the going gets really hot. My version is Brown Rice and there are two other colours, Cream and Misty Blue, to choose from.

My Passport Hat from Sunday Afternoons has already clocked up a lot of travel miles and I feel sure it will continue to do so.
