These Skar multi-use Hiking Pants, or Trousers, from Helly Hansen are well suited to those that travel, writes Mike Gormley.

The Skar multi-use trousers from HH are great for those travels when you need clothes to be able to work for almost all sorts of different situations. I have used these here in UK for coastal walks and trips out on Dartmoor, and the like, but also took them on our South Atlantic expedition where they were great.
Not perhaps overtly ‘outdoorsy’, so look fine in the airports as well, but also very much up to the tasks when out and about. They are easy wearing and comfortable. The knees are articulated for ease of movement and the material has a bit of stretch in it for when your movements are more extreme. The inner material has a soft feel for added comfort. The waistband is of a brushed finish so should not rub if comes next to skin. There is a good selection of well-sized and useable pockets to stow items that need to be readily available.
The material (primarily 94% Polyamide and 6% Elastane) is quoted as UPF 50 to protect against the sun, if you are lucky enough to be out in it, but is also good in the wet and wind. All adequately tried out.
