Croatian, Hungarian and Italian forces demonstrated their combat readiness with a live-fire exercise in Hungary, boosting defence and the ability of different Allied forces to operate effectively together on NATO’s eastern flank.
The battlegroup conducted a multinational live-fire exercise at the Bakony Training Area in Hungary. The training featured Leopard 2 tanks, Italian Centauro wheeled tank destroyers and BTR-80 infantry fighting vehicles. Hungarian troops carried out dismounted infantry assaults supported by anti-tank guided missiles and mortars while Italian forces fired artillery, including howitzers and mortars.
The exercise forms part of NATO’s multinational battlegroup in Hungary, integrating approximately 800 personnel from Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Türkiye and the United States. Exercises like this strengthen NATO’s collective defence posture and enhance the ability of different Allied forces to operate effectively together for the protection of NATO’s eastern flank.
