Press Release, Portsmouth NH and Helsinki, 20 May 2026: Distance Technologies – the leading developer of glasses-free Augmented Reality enhanced with visual intelligence for defence applications – today announced a collaboration with Galvion, a world leader in innovative head protection systems. The effort is intended to integrate the most advanced Augmented Reality (AR) computational optics and Distance’s Acuity OS directly into Galvion’s state-of-the-art head system solutions.

The collaboration is intended to bring together Galvion’s expertise in mission-critical head systems and integrated soldier solutions with Distance’s advanced visual augmentation. By aligning helmet design, subsystem integration, and user interface development from the outset, the companies aim to rapidly accelerate a path from technical development to customer evaluation and commercialisation.

By integrating these platforms, Galvion and Distance are improving usability, durability, and field suitability for dismounted troops receiving advanced tactical data through an advanced visual augmentation system. The collaboration expects market-ready integrated systems in 2027, following a period of trial, evaluation and validation.

Galvion has long focused on delivering integrated head systems that meet the evolving operational requirements of modern defence missions,” said Jonathan Blanshay, Founder and Executive Chairman of Galvion. “By combining Galvion’s helmet platform and system integration capabilities with Distance’s visual intelligence, we have the opportunity to push the boundaries of situational awareness for the warfighter. Distance is at the forefront of innovation in advanced AR, and we are excited to be working with them to enhance survivability for operators, today and into the future.”

“Distance was founded to bring advanced visual AI capabilities out of the lab and into real operational systems,” said Urho Konttori, CEO and co-founder at Distance. “Working with Galvion gives us the opportunity to integrate our patented computational optics solution together with Acuity Operating System for the first time into a proven head platform from the world leader in this market segment. We are incredibly proud to partner with a pioneer like Galvion. Their unwavering commitment to survivability makes them the ideal partner as we work together to deliver the absolute best soldier safety and tactical intelligence systems in the world.”
