KNDS to Modernise Bundeswehr BOXER Ambulances

KNDS Deutschland will modernise all Bundeswehr BOXER sgSanKfz (heavily protected Ambulance vehicle) variant 8×8 wheeled vehicles.

Press Release, Munich/Bonn, 25 November 2025: KNDS Deutschland (KNDS) will modernise all BOXER 8×8 wheeled vehicles in the variant sgSanKfz (heavily protected Ambulance vehicle).

A corresponding contract has been signed between ARTEC (OEM of the BOXER system and a joint venture between KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetall Landsysteme) and KNDS. A total of 72 BOXER Ambulance will be upgraded. This includes new, state-of-the-art medical equipment for the ambulances. In addition, the BOXER sgSanKfz will be equipped with the latest generation of digital radios as part of the German Army’s D-LBO (Digitalisation of Land-Based Operations) project. The contract is valued at approximately €117 million. The first upgraded systems are expected to be delivered starting in 2027.

The variable ambulance mission module can accommodate a variable number of casualties, depending on the type of injury. Intensive care is also possible. The BOXER Ambulance offers the same level of protection for the crew as the BOXER infantry variant, making it one of the best-protected medical vehicles on the market.
