Following release of the UK MoD’s Land Mobility Programme (LMP) Public Information Notice, General Dynamics announced on 17 September that it will offer the Ford Ranger for the Light Mobility Vehicle (LMV) opportunity, in collaboration with partners at Ricardo and Ford.
“Based on Europe’s best-selling pickup, the NCAP5-rated Ford Ranger brings class-leading levels of safety and is backed by a global parts and service network and telematic fleet management solution to minimise through-life costs whilst maximising reliability and availability. The modular, high-volume platform provides the foundation for a range of adaptations including increased payload and electrical power generation.”
At DVD 2024, held at the UTAC Millbrook Proving Ground, the following Rangers were exhibited:-
- On the General Dynamics stand, a General Support Vehicle with military fit-out and a ‘special edition’ Ranger for select stakeholders.
- On the Ricardo stand, a Ranger with a HEX 6×6 conversion kit fitted.
- On the Ford stand, another Ranger 4×4 General Support Vehicle and two commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) Rangers.
- On the dynamic Ride & Drive area, two COTS Rangers [plus a Ranger 4×4 with dropside cargo bed].
