AM General Wins $230 Billion JLTV Contract

AM General LLC, South Bend, Indiana, was awarded a $230,874,512 contract for the JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) family of vehicles.

US DoD Contract Notice, Arlington VA, 09 February 2023: AM General LLC, South Bend, Indiana, was awarded a $230,874,512 hybrid (cost-plus-fixed-fee and firm-fixed-price) contract for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle Family of Vehicles. Bids were solicited via the internet with two received. Work will be performed in South Bend, Indiana, with an estimated completion date of Feb. 8, 2033. Fiscal 2023 other procurement, Army funds; procurement, US Marine Corps funds; research, development, test and evaluation, Army funds; and research, development, test and evaluation, Navy funds in the amount of $230,874,512 were obligated at the time of the award. US Army Contracting Command, Detroit Arsenal, Michigan, is the contracting activity.

AM General Awarded 5-Year, Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) Family of Vehicles Recompete Contract.

Press Release, South Bend, 09 February 2023: The US Army Contracting Command Detroit Arsenal today awarded leading global military mobility solutions provider, AM General, a 5-year (plus 5-year option) contract to manufacture an estimated 20,000 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) along with approximately 10,000 trailers and includes implementation of technology enhancements for delivery to the US Armed Forces.

Further, AM General combines unmatched LTV programme experience with proven transformative commercial manufacturing initiatives, like their Smart Factory, Automated Guided Vehicle System (AGV), Radio Frequency Identification/Global Positioning System (RFID/GPS) traceability, and rigorous International Automotive Task Force (IATF) 16949 certified Quality Management System (QMS) standards to produce and deliver JLTVs equipped with technical enhancements that surpass requirements. Some of the JLTV technology enhancements include enhanced corrosion protection and improved fuel efficiency in addition to continuous developments for an updated Next Generation Vehicle Architecture.

The JLTV will be produced in a dedicated military production facility at their 96-acre Mishawaka Manufacturing Campus (MMC) in Indiana. MMC features an onsite test track where JLTVs will undergo testing in a dynamic operating environment. These dedicated facilities underpin the company’s readiness to execute a smooth transition for JLTV production, quality testing, and delivery. Deliveries are expected to begin 17 months after contract award.

Editor’s Footnote: Oshkosh Defence was selected in August 2015 for the initial eight year JLTV production contract. In April 2020 the US Army announced it was looking to issue a new contract to manufacture its JLTV, after US Congress had mandated a recompete to bring down costs, and in February 2022 a Presolicitation Notice was issued for a five years plus five years option follow-on (JLTV A2) contract.
