Press Release, Madrid, 27 September 2021: Hong Kong’s Air Rescue Service provided through the Government Flying Service (GFS) and its Government Logistics Department (GLD) have chosen Indra, one of the leading global technology and consulting companies, to be its Flight and Mission H175 Helicopter Simulator supplier through an open tender.
The H175 is a medium utility transport helicopter with a crew of two pilots and capacity for eighteen passengers. It features the latest technology and requires diligent training for its effective use.
GFS pilots are always ready to takeoff and respond to any emergency: search and rescue operations, medical evacuations, wildfire suppression missions as well as surveillance tasks. They can fly day or night missions, often in adverse weather conditions.
Training is a decisive factor when it comes to pilots’ safety and mission success. This has led to GFS choosing Indra’s advanced H175 helicopter simulator that will reinforce the GFS pilots’ training and will prepare them to take part in search, rescue and surveillance missions. The pilots can define the most effective strategies to follow and drill until they perfect them. The GFS pilots can train a wide variety of missions, including evacuation on offshore platforms, water landings, mountain search and rescue operations, wildfire suppression missions, or evacuation operations after natural disasters.
The simulation system has been specially developed to provide high fidelity in mission training. The pilot trains in a virtual world, which replicates real life scenarios and missions. “We are able to get the pilots to train as if they were performing a real operation”, explains Luis F. García BD Director at Indra Training Solutions & Services.
Indra is one of the few manufacturers in the world that provides its systems with the same flight and avionics software employed in the real aircraft, thus replicating aircraft’s behaviour and ensuring the quality of training. Indra’s systems train military pilots for helicopters such as the NH90, Tiger, Cougar, Chinook, Blackhawk and Seahawk, AW159 Wildcat and the MH53. In the civil field, it has helicopter simulators for the EC135, H225, H175, AS350, H145, EC145, Bell212, Bell412 and the Sikorsky S76. In addition to these are the highly advanced winged aircraft simulators such as the A400M and the Eurofighter, among others, as well as passenger airplanes A320, Boeing 737 and ATR 72.
