Press Release, Falls Church, 08 July 2026: BAE Systems has entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne S.A. (WZM) and H.CEGIELSKI-POZNAŃ SA (HCP).
Both companies are members of PGZ Capital Group and premier Polish defence companies specialising in the sustainment and manufacturing of tracked armoured vehicles. The agreement reflects a shared commitment to expanding Polish industrial capability for sustainment and support alongside the potential for localised production of the M88A2 Recovery Vehicle.
This MoU builds on the licensing agreement established in 2025 between BAE Systems and WZM, which centred on maintenance, repair, overhaul and sustainment activity on the M88A2. This new framework brings HCP’s manufacturing strengths into the strategic collaboration to combine with WZM’s existing sustainment expertise.
“This agreement is a testament to how BAE Systems does business: prioritising the needs of our allies through strong local strategic relationships,” said Dean Medland, vice president, Sustainment & International at BAE Systems. “By integrating our global expertise with the support and manufacturing capabilities of WZM and HCP, we are not just providing equipment; we are investing in Polish defence and local industrial growth. Strengthening Poland’s capability around the M88A2 ensures the sustainment and support of the critical recovery capabilities its forces depend on for years to come.”
Grzegorz Szkaradek, CEO of HCP, said: “The signing of this memorandum is a landmark moment not only for our plants, but for the entire city of Poznań. As chairman of the management boards of both H. Cegielski-Poznań and Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne, I am proud of the synergy we have achieved. By combining HCP’s unique production facilities with WZM’s extensive armour and service experience, we are becoming a strong and comprehensive partner for BAE Systems in Greater Poland. This collaboration is a clear signal that Poznań is emerging as a key production and service hub for cutting-edge armoured platforms for the Polish Army. This will bring Poznań not only new technologies and unique engineering expertise, but also stability and growth for decades to come.”
This collaboration is another milestone in a long history of how BAE Systems builds capability with local industry across Poland’s defence sector. Earlier in 2026, BAE Systems announced a collaboration agreement with PGZ that covers a wide range of potential collaboration opportunities in defence domains across land, air, sea, cyber and space while building on existing joint efforts to produce 155mm ammunition in Poland.
BAE Systems is dedicated to working with the Polish Land Forces to provide unified recovery capabilities that can recover all armoured vehicles in the Polish Army’s fleet. With enhanced horsepower and upgraded armour protection, including armoured track skirts and armour panels, the M88A2 can manoeuvre and extract a 70-ton stranded vehicle – and its crew – to safety. It is built and equipped to be a world-class recovery vehicle capable of recovering the M1 Abrams tank.
