Zamberlan Trackmaster GTX Light Hiking Boots

These Trackmaster GTX boots from Zamberlan are, as I write this during the long hot summer of 2018, ideal for such conditions, says Mike Gormley.

Although GTX, and therefore having a Gore-Tex laminate waterproof and breathable lining to help keep the wet out, these boots are designed and well-suited for light warm weather walking / trekking.

For the record, the Trackmaster GTX model uses the four-layer Gore-Tex Performance Comfort lining designed to be ideal for changing weather and a wide range of activities.

I am in this case pleased to report an error on the company e-commerce website; these are definitely available in size EUR 48 (UK 13) and not just up to EUR 47 (UK12.5) as stated. This has enabled me to wear these comfortably on a number of good walks to date.

The first walk, straight from the box, was a favourite stretch of coastal walk on the Jurassic Coast near me. Perhaps a risk but, knowing Zamberlan as I now do, the Trackmasters proved to be perfectly comfortable on the warm sunny day over a good few miles of the typically varied terrain of this part of the South West Coast Path. Since then they have accompanied me to both Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor and along more of the SWCP.

The upper is of one piece of Hydrobloc treated Peranger leather (suede-like) with a very useful polyurethane toe protection to ward off encounters with rocks. The composite soles have a nice level of flexibility for easy walking and I like these Vibram StarLite outsoles, which offer a good level of traction. The angled grips go right to the toe and heel and the instep also has ribs to help grip when required.

I had planned to take these off on a few days of backpacking on the Cornish Coast Path but so far ‘life’ has got in the way. However, the Trackmasters will be ready to go when the time comes. I know they will be ideal and I look forward to the opportunity.
